Win XP and SATA Drives

Bernie

Hi,
Owing to a disc crash, I now have the following set up:
- Gigabyte Mobo K7 series
- 2 SATA drives (1 Seagate 320Gb (New) 1 Maxtor 300Gb(Old))
- plus the normal components.
- IDE Drive in the bin.
I want to install a fresh copy of Win XP Home onto the New SATA drive.
How do I do this as Win Xp does recognise the SATA drives???
F6 says load new drivers for the SATA/SCSI/RAID what 1???
The MOBO BIOS says it doesn't want to give me the option to boot from SCSI???
Please help?

Does or does not recognise them?

Many motherboards have special settings for booting from SATA drives,
particularly in the presence of PATA drives (which will include your CD/DVD
drive).

Depends on the board and the disk configuration you want. You may or may
not need the SATA drivers if the BIOS is configured properly. And if you
aren't planning on RAID, you don't need those drivers.

VIA KM400A chipset. I want to load Win XP onto the SATA drive and I can't
because Win XP doesn't "see" the SATA Drive.

The chipset has less to do with it than the BIOS implementation. On my
ASUS board, unless a specific setting is made, the SATA drives can't be
found at all. Once that's done, no drivers are needed.

Check the board manual.

In fact the chipset is everything to do with it. I downloaded the SATA
drivers for the chipset and loaded them during the F6 and hey presto Win XP
saw the 2 disks. Problem solved.
