Belarc Advisor for the first time today showed Hotfix UPDQ 823559 as no
good and needing to be re-installed.

Did so twice from the update CD I got from Gary Terhune and also from the
MS site. None took, still shows as no good. Am I correct in that this
update applies to the Buffer Overrun in the HTML converter? If so, how
important is this fix.

I'm guessing I have to un-install something to get this right? If so, any
pointers welcome. Don't want to mess with registry w/o some instruction as
to exact key etc.

Win 98 SE, p166.

Regards...............

Does Windows Update offer you 923559?

What versions of the file Html32.cnv and Msconv97.dll are you currently
running?

Yes, at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q823559

Version 2003.1100.5426

I have 2 instances of it. Both 305 kb and both the above version.
At c:\windows\options\cabs and c:\programfiles\micros\textconv

BTW: I have IE 6 installed. I use Opera for the most part, but keep IE
on
my pc because I have Hotmail problems if I don't. And, I'm sure
other things if I didn't.

Thanks for responce,
Regards........

the one in C:\windows\options is 113 kb and the one in
C:\windows\programfiles is 140 kb. ???

By Windows Update, I mean http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

That tells us that the files 823559/MS03-023 would give you are already
present on the machine. I'd suspect that 823559/MS03-023 or a later update
that included these file versions is already installed and that Windows
Update website wouldn't offer the update to the machine.

Success. I had a big 'duh' moment and thought to first delete all ref to
QB 823559 and then search on the _ first MS Update CD. The one from I
guess 98 to Feb. 2004. Found it and installed. Ran Belarc again and
hotfix shows as ok. Thanks for putting up with me till I woke up.

Regards...

Uh, OK, but you didn't need to install it.
