I have a client that has removed the computer browser service. How do I
re-install this service on a production server?

Hi David,

The computer browser service is installed with the Client for Microsoft
Networks. Within your nic's local area connection properties confirm that
this is listed and checkmarked, if its not you can install it via the
Install button.

What is it that you need the computer browser service for? -If you are
planning to use it so that client PCs can browse through MyNetworkPlaces,
you may want to consider using WINS as its much more network efficient for
this purpose (the browser service can be very broadcast chatty). However to
do this you would still need the computer browser service running on your DC
servers as well as disabled on all client pcs.

More info than you prolly wanted. :-)

Thank you very much.

Over zealous techie with lockdown script removed service from DC. No end to
trouble.

Thanks again.

Re: computer browser service WINXP

Hi Avid,

Its the "Client for Microsoft Networks" which would need to be present and
checked.
If you dont see it in your nic's local area connection properties then you
will need to install it via the install button there.
