Windows 2000 Win 2000 pro won't boot

canna

When the 2000 screen apear the loading bar gets about 3 quarters across and
BSOD appears. It mentions about a virus and says run CHDSK /F.

How can I fix this? I really need the files on the laptop for work. I got
the laptop from a friend but it does not have a 2000 disk with it.

I have gone to bootdisk. com and downloaded 4 disks and 2 .exe files. These
are currently on my memory stick. The laptop doesn't have a floppy drive do I
need to put these files on a CD?

Here are a few options:
- Try booting in Safe Mode, by pressing F8 early during the boot phase.
- Boot the machine with a Bart PE boot CD (www.bootdisk.com),
then copy the files to a flash disk.
- Remove the disk, then install it in an external USB case so that you
can access your files on some other PC.

This would be a good time to review your backup policy.
In a robust installation, important files always reside on at
least two independent media.
 
You should be able to copy the files from the memory stick to your laptop by
using the USB port. Did you try to run the CHDSK /F from the Start and then
run area?

Thanks for your response. I should have mentioned that it BSOD's even in safe
mode, infact every option I select from the F8 menu just BSOD's.

BART PE requires a Windows 2000 installation disk which I don't have. I'm
currently searching and asking people if they could lend me their copy but
not many home users seem to run win 2000.

Is there anything else I could try in the meantime?

This is incorrect. A Bart PE boot CD requires a WinXP
Professional CD. There should be lots of those around.

It does not matter what you have at home. What matters
is that you need a WinXP Professional CD. The emphasis
is on "CD"!

Manufacturing the Bart PE CD can take you anything
between half an hour and three hours, depending on you
level of skill and experience. Removing the disk might
be a quicker option.

So if I remove the disk from the laptop, how would I make it work on my XP PC
and how would I get the files?

Do I need a cable? Won't the error on the disk just appear the same as on
the laptop?

Sorry about all the questions, i have never done this before as you can
probably tell.
