Will there be a final Update "Roll-Up" aka, SP4 for XP?

Hi,

We all know that there are a LOT of PCs out there still running XP and they will continue to run XP for a considerable time for very very good reasons, but that all support for XP ends begining of April 2014 (40 days as of tday) and so no new updates will be done for XP beyond then.

I wonder if anyone (espeially from Microsoft) knows what will happen to the Update service?

Will it keep running so that existing updates are stil available, or will it just be switched off?

If it is going to be switched off will Microsoft be releasing a downloadable "roll-up" of all updates since SP3 (call it SP4 or SP3+ for arguments sake)?

If it is not going to do this, then what has Microsoft to say to all those who will continue to need to rebuild XP machines (i.e. reinstall XP from scratch) because the applications and syem these systems run DO NOT run under 8 (now that Windows 7 has been killed as well)?

As it is, if I rebuild an XP machine (a good example is one we have running a VERY VERY expensive spectrograph, the manufacturer of which no longer exists so we can only run it under XP) how do I apply all of the updates post SP3? Upgrading the machine to a later windows is not an option as that would mean throwing several tens of £K worth of spectrograph in the bin.

Any ideas would be appreciated and a concrete answer from the horse's mouth (Microsoft) best of all.

Regards

George

(P.S. When is Windows 8 going to be aborted?)
