Sony Vaio RA830G with nVidea GeForce 6500 graphics card
I'm contemplating replacing my 17inch Sony flat panel monitor with a
20inch HP wide screen monitor with 1680x1050 resolution.
Checking my current display properties I seen that the highest option is
1280x1024. Is this tied in with the current display? If I plug in the
widescreen monitor will it give me the option for the higher
resolutions? Or do I have to replace the graphics card? Your help is
greatly appreciated. TIA

See if there is a software update for your card, or buy a
new card.

Thanx, Jim. Didn't need a new car afterall. Plugging in the widescreen
monitor automatically gave me the options for the higher res.

Good, check for driver updates, it may give better
performance. The card mfg'r site will have support/software
and drivers. Look up your model.

If the video card manufacturer (Sony??) does not provide any video
card driver updates, you might still be able to use the "referrence"
drivers provided by nVidia? (www.nvidia.com)
