Hello,

I got an appliation like a toolbar to lunch things like notepad etc
(some application, just same me some type time). Before I install
terminal service, it works ok. But when I got terminal service
installed, it failed to launch. (e.g. when the toolbar tries to launch
notepad,it gives out error:
Unable to find notepad.exe in "C:\documents and settings\administrator
\windows\".

So why it is searching that path?

If I remove terminal service, the application will be OK again.

Many Thanks
Jerry

Try reinstalling the app after TS is enabled.

Don't know, it is a appliaction we got long time ago.
Interestingly, it calls wordpad without any problem. But not notepad.

Is it possible to contact the vendor? You could also try running
process monitor from sysinternals to see if their is something to be seen.

Will try.
Process monitor may be a good idea. Maybe I can use fileMon and
process Monitor.
Many Thanks

Process monitor is the new filemon/regmon.

Is your toolbar customizable? Is it possible to update the path for
Notepad.exe?
Thanks

Hi Jerry,

It seems that your toolbar program is checking for the windows
directory using GetWindowsDir and then using that as a
basis to launch notepad.exe. This makes partial sense because
notepad.exe is located at %systemroot%\notepad.exe, however,
under a terminal services session GetWindowsDir will return the
user-specific windows directory instead of the *real* one.

In order to fix this you can set a compatibility flag for your toolbar
program. For example, if your toolbar program is named toolbar.exe
you would need to make the following registry additions:

1. Create the following registry key, substituting the real program
exe file name (without the .exe) for TOOLBAR:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\Applications\TOOLBAR

2. Create the following registry value under the above key:

Flags REG_DWORD 0x00000408

See this document for more information:

Program compatibility flags

http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/library/df78c476-00d5-41f0-a21d-e1e12e3d1f8b1033.mspx

Thanks.

I hope the Program compatibility flags described by TP solved the problem,
but look at the following in the registry:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppPaths

In there, there is an entry for WORDPAD.EXE but not notepad. I don't know
however if that is relevant.
