Why does Local and Wireless Network Connection keep upping the number?

Whenever I boot up my laptop (I use it in three different places) it pops up that it's connected to Local/Wireless but it randomly increments the number so that instead of "Local Network Connection" it says "Local Network Connection 1" or "Local Network Connection 2" but I'm not sure why these keep changing. I'm on the same routers with the same passwords. Can someone explain why this is happening and how to fix it?
