Why does automatic Windows updates keep turning off my DSL?

Every time Windows automatically updates on start-up it somehow turns off my DSL. I have DSL from AT&ampT and have a new Dell XPS desktop. I am unable to log on the internet. The only way I am able to log on is to restore my computer to an earlier time. This
keeps happening nearly every time there is an automatic Windows update. How do I fix this issue?
