I have auto-scan set up to run every week on a certain day and time but my computer may not be on and idle at the time so I may not be aware that it missed a scan for days or weeks because I received no notification and the orange castle in the notification bar is hidden by default. I'm seeing no way to fix the program's automation. I'm reading that this is how Microsoft intended it but that is asinine and I need it to start whenever it can (say as soon as the computer becomes on and idle) and continue running when it can (when the computer is on and idle) but it seems Microsoft has coded inherent contradictions in their software in regards to their own security.
I don't understand why Microsoft has not coded this to be smart or automatic for computers that are not on and running all the time. This is very dumb behavior and I've seen smart behavior in other security programs so I know Microsoft can do it. I however don't understand why they're not.

- I am allowed to turn the computer off or make it sleep or hibernate.
- I am allowed to have the computer shut off, sleep, or hibernate after a certain period of time.
- Security Essentials notification icon is set up by default to only show notifications but the security scan alert (orange castle) only shows in the bar (without having to click the up arrow) if I set it to show all the time so I missed the notification by several days or weeks, who knows.
- It will not auto-run the next possible time it can, when the computer is on and idle, which would be whenever I get up and leave (it has a two-hour window before it goes to sleep so there is no reason not to start the scan).
- It will not auto-resume if stopped prematurely.
