What software can record my audio stream to a wave file?

What software is around that will record the audio comming
out of my sound card to a WAV file ?

Wavepad (www.nch.com.au) is a very versatile option. AFAIK,
the basic version is free but the full version isn't.

Sorry, I was ambigious. I want to record whatever is commng OUT of
the AUDIO-OUT jack on my sound card to a file.

Where is that sound coming from, and why not capture it before there?

It's quite easy for multitrack recorders, like Audacity, to record sounds
from the card. In fact, it's a "problem" that many people new to
multitrack recording run into. They have a microphone, and play along
with the previous tracks... which the mic picks up.
