I have heard that M$ is promoting Silverlight as cross platform.

Is it including Win 98 as a cross platform system?

Very True and we must accept that the support that Windows 98 users get will
be from Microsoft supported Windows 98 Newsgroups and from the self-help area
of Microsoft articles within Technet and the Windows 98 Center.

True, it is obsolete but I would say Windows 98 Second Edition is good and
safe as Chris Quirke, MVP shows us in his website about Risk Management. I
am sitting nicely and now running 98 Second Edition as my main operating
system again since I downgraded to 512 sdram chip from 2 gigabytes and my
machine and myself are humming along nicely while all the DNS Pollution is
out there in the world. I await PCR's Response to this. <grins>

DNS poisoning is insidious & horrible, but I too see no evidence of it
yet in my machine. Unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure what it would
look like if I had it, though. I do hope the mishmash of expert rules I
have downloaded into my Kerio Personal Firewall has it covered.

From what I can make of that MS article, DNS poisoning has to do with
"translating host names to IP addresses (and vice versa)". So, it's a
matter of getting to the right site when an URL is clicked. If you get
to the wrong one, mischief can occur. But I'm not sure where the
poisoning would occur. Is it in one's machine or at a name server site?
What is the evidence of a poisoning?

PCR, if you go into the Internet Explorer options and check the display a
notification about every script error box and then run Internet Explorer you
will get an idea of DNS Pollution. I noticied at work problems popping up
with scirpt errors recently and contacted corporate and the two seem to be
related but I am sure it is much more complicated than that but this can give
you an idicator of a problem at least to start with in my opinion.

You are most welcome. BTW, which service provider do you. PCR use and how do
you connect to the 'Net -- eg. cable, dsl, <broadband> or dial-up
<narrowband>. I am sure I asked you in the past but Gary S. Terhune has
correctly stated in the past that my memory is poor and that is indeed the
case because I am learning disabled which was diagnosed at age 6.

I will always have to deal with that for what it is worth but at least it
makes me a special and unique individual. Now, do I have a good perspective
of all my ailments or am I just truly fully crazy. <grinning madly -watch
out- LOL -- sorry Gary -- I cannot resist -- I hope the fires are better now
in California for Gary's sake>

By the way, I connect with Comcast Cable which according to the us-cert.gov
site was one of the first to protect against DNS Pollution.

....that DNS pollution might be something for an ISP to solve (not the
user). I'm glad your Comcast has solved it for you. I'm sure NetZero
must be on it too. Anyhow, I've detected no symptoms.

You seem to be well enough to me, memory & all. I worry more that
Terhune will perish in an earthquake than in a fire. And if only his
governor would sit still, there'd be fewer of those too!

You are correct, it certainly falls on the ISP side but the user must bug
the ISP for fixes as well as being ever more careful while surfing the web
and practice safe hex methods, of course. These few web sites may be of

The nice thing PCR about the 98 general newsgroup and especially posting
within older posts like this is nobody really cares or is interested and it
is nice to be somewhat subtle so you don't have to panic your average
computer users. It reminds me of Spiderman "With great power comes great
responsibility" not that I have any great power mind you and I just consider
it a knack for computers. BTW, I will be starting a newer lower dose of
thyroid medicine today because sure enough the old dose was too high again
and made me angry, irritated and hyper. I appreciate you and so many others
for caring for me and bearing me up and through these difficult times. You
guys especially you PCR and Robear are truly awesome and brilliant
individuals. (now I know I will probably get some post saying what about me
and yes you helped also but these 2 individuals are on the top of my head
right now of course. My head must be in the clouds and in dreamland again.

:-) Thanks but what goes around comes around and as Gary S. Terhune made
you batty, I made Gary Batty and so 98 general continues as one big family,
imo. I am just glad I made it back and survived alpha, beta and gamma
radiation from XP and Vista. My Toshiba Vista has been sent back to be
repaired and hopefully purified from the radiation. The biometrics were
faulty as well as other issues and too many issues with Vista even though I
did indeed have a hand in beta testing it --- thanks to my friend Jeff who
was a system engineer and he has now gone on to the ministry. :-o

| made you batty, I made Gary Batty and so 98 general continues as one
| big family, imo. I am just glad I made it back and survived alpha,
| beta and gamma radiation from XP and Vista. My Toshiba Vista has
| been sent back to be repaired and hopefully purified from the
| radiation. The biometrics were faulty as well as other issues and
| too many issues with Vista even though I did indeed have a hand in
| beta testing it --- thanks to my friend Jeff who was a system
| engineer and he has now gone on to the ministry. :-o

That's bad when the biometrics is faulty! Have that engineer say a dozen
Hail Mary's over that Vista machine! And don't turn it back on until the

LOL, hopefully it will be down to minimal radiation status -- at least not
much above XP's radiation levels -- which are not too bad with using Classic
interface and a few tweaks -- grinning --- I can feel the peace of mind with
the broken Vista Laptop out of the house and on its merry way to Toshiba to
be repaired
