Subject says it all.

Never noticed this service before and it is not listed in Management Services.

I see it running for long periods. Is this normal?

This is on a WinXP Pro SP2 desktop.

Open My Computer and the search toolbar for files (view menu, toolbars,
search) Click Change Preferences, and note the item for not using the Index
service. This is the service you found. It speeds searching.

Thanks.

This is one of those occasions where mixing terms can confuse issues.
Indexing Service = Content Index Service, it would help to be
consistent in terminology.
