I have ran windows 8 since feb of last year and really tried to like it. I hacked around most things I didnt like (ie metro). However windows 8 rtm proved very unstable for me. At first I thought it was my overclock, but went back to stock
and still the same unstablility. Updated drivers, downgraded drivers, tried it all. Here is the kicker, CP an RP on my hardware was rock solid but on rtm, unstable. So over the weekend i went back to win7 sp1 x64 and immediately was able
to go back to my 4GHz overclock. Not a single problem since.
So you cannot tell my i didnt give it a fair shot because i ran it almost a year.
My question, what changed between rp and rtm? RP was rock solid and rtm was a pita. While i hated metro, I was able to live without it, win8 has some features i really miss like pausing file copies for one example. Media Center is much
better on windows 7 than 8 also. But it wasnt enough to make me switch. It took constant lockups and a few reboots to convince me to do something different. I dont think it was drivers, the problem didnt get worse (could it?) or better regardless of
the drivers. Gaming was a dicey proposition.
I guess I will have to wait until sp1 to try again.
Any insights would be appreciated. Again, hardware has no issues under windows 7.
