New To The Game

i have a MSI StarCam370i. It says it is compatable with Windows xp on the
box but when I try to install it i get a message that it is not recognised by
windows and may cause problems on my P.C. How do I know when a webcam is
compatable when this one clearly states that it is. frustrated !!!

Go to the manufacturers website and get the latest drivers there.
They may be newer than what was included in the box.

Otherwise contact the manufacturer for information.

Have you tried the camera on another computer?
It is also possible the camera is defective.

Based on a quick glance at some online reviews, it *ought* to work with
WinXP. How did you try to install it? You should install the driver
(from the CD) *before* you plug the camera into the computer.

It helps if you post the actual message you're seeing. I suspect that
this is a case of a non-signed driver, which means that the manufacturer
of the device didn't submit the driver to MS for a digital "signature."
In most cases (actually all cases I've personally seen), this means
nothing, and the device will probably work just fine if its manufacturer
states that it's XP-compatible.
