Just to warn everyone that Windows Update is offering an audio driver update
that is incorrect. It is offering to install IDT-HD audio Codec but that is
wrong and wont work. If you have installed it you first must uninstall the
incorrect driver(a rollback will not work) and go to the Dell web page and
download the SigmaTel audio driver for the C521. Which by the way is
incompatible with Vista SP1.

Do you see ANY other posts here about this?

No but I experienced the same problem last evening and used system restore
to recover from the "no sound" that had ensued after loading the optional
update..........

I posted the following in a thread here re the same issue -

Follow up - I went to the Dell site
(http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/ ) and under Desktop \ Audio
there is one thread on page 1 (
http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=dim_audio&thread.id=83029 )
that gives some of us the option to download another SigmaTel driver, one
that is approved by SP1. Read that post carefully. After I installed that
particular driver (via Dell), I was then offered SP1 to download.

Initially I forgot to disable my McAfee Firewall\ AV when installing that
SP1 (and rec'd a 80041315 error) , once I disabled McAfee the SP1 installed
flawlessly.

Dell has released a new Sigmatel 92xx audio driver package on 5/19/2008
called "SIGMATEL_STAC-92XX-C-Major-H_A06_R182475.exe" which has version
6.10.0.5866 of the audio drivers for Dell Optiplex 740 and maybe for the Dell
C521/E521 desktop machines. Search for that file from the Dell support site
and download it.

The "bad" IDT HD Audio Codec for Vista from Windows Update is no longer
available. seems as if Microsoft removed it a few weeks ago.
