First of all, I admit I know little on VPN so bear with me for this simple
question.

I made a new VPN connection so I can remote desktop to my work's machine.

When the VPN connection was established, my home PC's network went out - no
access to the internet, no access to other home network. JUst the VPN
connction was active.

When I disconnect the VPN connection, everything comes back.

Is this normal? If so, how can I keep the Internet access working while on
VPN connection?

Thanks,

You probably need to access internet via
a proxy server; the company IT may have it for you, or a colleague.

When I go on my coy VPN, if I need I/net access as well as Company
e mail, I have to turn on proxy settings via
Internet Explorer
Tools
I/Net Options
Connections
Lan Options
Proxy Server

When you come off the VPN link, you just deselect, but setting
remains greyed out, so you can easily turn back on.

*** Setting up a VPN in order to use Remote Desktop is one
*** way of doing things. However, you can use Remote Desktop
*** just as easily without a VPN, provided that you instruct the
*** router at the host site to forward RDP packets to your PC's
*** internal IP address, which must be fixed.

*** This happens whenn you use the same subnet at the host and
*** at the client end. You should change one of them.
