Volume Control Recording grayed out

In the Volume Control goto options- properties- here you will find the recording button. Press it and it will pull up all the input sliders. Well mine is grayed out! I've have USB Mics plugged into this machine. Need to find out whats wrong, any help is greatly appreciated. thanks
