Vista/Windows Mobile problems

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes:

I have an iPaq that I connect to my laptop occasionally, mainly when I need
to install a program or perhaps transfer data such as maps for navigation. I
was able to make a connection yesterday and installed a new driver to the
iPaq using a CD thgat came with my new GPS. Installation went fine and GPS
works well with iPaq. But, today I anted to transfer some maps and I cannot
get a connection.

What happens, is that both the iPaq and my laptop Beep as they usually do.
The iPaq says it has a connection. But, Vista brings up a Windows Mobile
splash screen that say "Please wait while Windows Mobile Device Centre
Starts". But, it never does start.

In the Device Manager, there are two entries - Mobile Devices(Compaq iPaq
USB) and Portable Devices (Windows Mobile device). I have tried having
windows install new drivers and it seems to do this, but there is still no
connection.

I am running Vista Home Premium on a Compaq Presario V6000. The iPaq is an
older 3670 running PPC2002. OK, I know it is an old unit, but I have had
connections before.

Any suggestions as to how to get a connection?
