I must say, most impressive, especially
a.. With SP1, Windows Vista will report the amount of system memory
installed rather than report the amount of system memory available to the
OS. Therefore 32-bit systems equipped with 4GB of RAM will report all 4BG in
many places throughout the OS, such as the System Control Panel. However,
this behavior is dependent on having a compatible BIOS, so not all users may
notice this change.
 
It can report it all it wants. But look at Taskmanager - that's where you'll
see that you don't really have 4 GB of RAM. There's no magic here - you
can't use all 4 GB of virtual memory address space for RAM because there are
cards that need some of that address space. Video cards are generally the
single biggest item chewing up address space. If you want 4 GB of RAM and
want to have access to all of it, you must run x64 Windows.
