Vista search can't find Thunderbird emails

I've had no luck at the Thunderbird forum. And this is one of those
situations I find it hard to believe I'm inventing the wheel. Surely
others have tackled this one.

I tried one more measure this morning after googling around a bit: I
told Vista to search hidden files and folders. But it still isn't
finding my Thunderbird emails.

A few days ago someone suggested going to microsoft and looking for an
add-in or plugin. I didn't find anything there searching "thunderbird."

Anyone here who might re-invent the wheel for me?

Thunderbird stores user profile at:

%USERPROFILE%\Appdata\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

Your emails should be there, as well as it's settings.

Thanks.
But I need spoon feeding.
I went to %USERPROFILE%\Appdata\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles
and found lots of stuff, including what probably is most needed
......a folder called "mail."
But how do I get Vista to go in there, index it for searches and
continue updating the index?

Good question. I think you can't not. Vista's indexer that currently
does not know Thunderbird (and i would give my head that no other but
Outlook and Windows Mail) e-mail format. If it is expandable (i'am not
really familiar with it but think not) and documented there is a chance
someone will make an extension to it.
If it is kinda like Activesync/WMDC (only can sync devices with Outlook,
and can't even sync with Vista's integrated PIM) than will never happen.

I haven't found anything that definitively says WDS can search Thunderbird
emails.
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Desktop_search

TB stores the emails in the mbox format, but without an extension.

http://www.ifilter.org/

The only ifilter I've found is here...
http://www.citeknet.com/Products/Pr...dMozillaEudoraMailAddin/tabid/70/Default.aspx
but it's a beta and over 2 years old, so I don't know if it works.
