When I try and play a DVD I get the error message:

Windows Media CEnter cannot detect a video DVD in the DVD-ROM drive. Insert
a video DVD into the drive.

Why is it not recognizing the DVD?

Have you verified that the DVD is not damaged by putting it in another
machine to see if it reads it properly?
