An article in this group gave link to Trend. On line scan reported 8
infected files (VBS Generic.009). All in C:\System Volume
Information_restore{530... Seems a strange place for an infestation. I
exited without cleaning the reported items. What would happen if I "cleaned"
SVI?

I went to Trend because I recently had a vbs. inserted from web site:
expedit.jpg.vbs and ddosattacker.vbs. Undetected by Avast. Small annoyance
only. Unchecked the entry in msconfig/startup and removed files from
C:\windows\System 32. That ended the nuisance. Could these be related to the
Trend finding in SVI ? Suggestions much appreciated.

System Volume Information contains your restore points. I wouldn't worry
about it. If you need a restore point it's often better to have an infected
one that none.

Clear your restore points, create a new one when the sys is clean

vbs files are also
macros that can be
programmed erroneously
or maliciously. that is
why office modules have
the option to block macros
or allow them, depending on
your preferences.

however, in regards to your
restore points you can clear out
all of the restore points when
you turn the system restore feature
off.

also, a repair installation
with your windows cd
would also delete all
the old restore points
and create a new one
the repair has verified
and replaced any non
genuine system files.
