Hi again;

I`m sorry to say I fear I have a whole load of problems on my computer,hence another thread. :eek:

When running my anti-virus program (AVG free) I find that some System Registry files are "open\command".Does this mean I have a problem?Forgive my ignorance here,but I ask,as recently after a scan which found some virus infected files I read that this type of message related to some sort of problem. :confused:

Something else I was wondering about is the comparisons\variations between the various anti-virus/repair system registry/spyware etc programs on offer.I have run several different versions and all differ in their results,some quite dramatically.For example,one will say there are 200 odd problems in various areas on my computer and another will say 150, with no problems at all in a particular area on the computer,i.e. invalid file path or whatever,However,all say there are a large number of problems. :(

Can anyone advise me here on which programs are the best to use?

Well, i've had the best luck with Norton products. they offer a wide variety of software to help keep your computer safe. AVG and other free anti-virus programs are nice and convienent, but often do't tell the whole story. my advise would be not to cheap out on an anti-virus program. go out and buy one but do shop and compare. like i saif i like norton myself.

As for spyware, i have a few. some are free and some are not. a few good free ones are spybot, ad-aware, spy subtract. i own spy sweeper and are also using the free ones, it's not a bad idea to have more than one and to use them on a daily basis. hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks for the reply and I guess you`re right;I have been cheaping out and need to get something a little better than what I have.The problem has been that I`ve not faced the same challenges before as I`ve only recently gone online.Prior to this,I happily used it for years with no problems really and as I use my computer for music (storage and programs,I`m a musician) the above was always a concern when getting connected.Thanks anyhow, :) .
