When screensaver initiates system crashes and computer restarts. Has never
happened before, I can't think of any recent system changes to cause this, I
will go to ATI and re-install Catalyst Control Center and drivers, will keep
you posted.

My device is a 512KB ATI Radeon X1300.

when you go to install the drivers.
do the UNINSTALL first.

You said you installed the most recent drivers - July 2008 - right?

Next question: what screen saver are you using?

You're using Vista's native screensaver.

If one of the choices is working, and another isn't... then maybe the
other is corrupted.

Can't think of anythng else.

Have you tried any/all of the other choices?

I haven't tried other screen savers, I will run some Diagnostic tests in
DirectX, my fan on my video card can be very noisy and may need cleaning and
bearings lubricated. Maby my Video Card overheated. I have never been there
when it has crashed, i just know it's when this screen saver is running.

Any how, if I find any other Info on this I will post it.

I have had the exact same problem starting this week.

Uninstalled the drivers and reinstalled to most updated, and it still didn't
work.

Was using google screensaver, and it only ran for about 15 seconds each of
about 5 times. Computer was not running hot, because i had just turned it on,
and i induced the screensaver to test it rather than having it come on
automatically.

Changed screensavers to some of the default Vista ones, and same thing=crash
after <30 sec.

I disabled the screensaver, and it doesn't crash.

Any other ideas?

Hmmmmm, my problem started happening all of a sudden and I can'd identify any
changes made that could affect it...

Let's hope it has been figured out, have you contacted ATI?

Yeah changing to the Blank screen saver stopped the crash.

Are you running any beta software like IE8, WLM9 or Windows Advisor?

I have yet to solve this issue myself. I'm using an ATI Radeon HD3870.
No matter what version of the Catalyst driver it occurs unless like
others I put screen saver to None or Blank.

Must be a issue for a bunch of people as my friend from work also
experiences the same problem.

The worst part is ATI failing to recognise this problem and their lack of help.
