Very large pagefile.sys

My pagefile.sys (Win XP home) seems to have bloated to a very large size
(>3GB) though the date seems to be way back in July '07.

How do I reduce this to reclaim space back to my hard-disk and what makes
this file expand so much?

Thanks

The size of the pagefile NOW is all that's important.
Gazillions of things could have made it go over 3 gig
back in July, including malware or just a glitch. What
is your CURRENT pf size?

Perhaps my initial post was not clear.

The ONLY pagefile.sys in my boot-drive directory is dated 12JUL07 and its
size is 3GB+

How can I reduce it?

Re: How to adjust virtual memory

pagefile is sized

by the virtual memory

control panel:

Click start > run > sysdm.cpl

Then click the Advanced tab >

Settings under Performance > Advanced tab >

click change under Virtual memory.

Highlight the partition/drive.

It is likely notating the

erroneous size you mentioned.

Then underneath select custom

option and enter initial size of 2 and

max of 1152, then reboot.

the amount of the max
size above is likely greater
than the "recommended"
size notated by windows
near the bottom of the
vm control panel.

Has the system been up without interuption since July 07? The pagefile
is created by the Session Manager everytime the computer boots up, has
your machine been up without a reboot since the timestamp on the pagefile?

Let the system manage itself and don't worry about it. Maybe your installed
memory (RAM) is too little for your applications, in which case you should
be experiencing poor response from the system.

Sorry, I meant to reply to the OP, not to your reply.
