Vertical Lines on Left Hand Side of Monitor Screen

Its not the monitor, I have hook two other monitors to this computer and
still get the same results. Also when I scrool on a page, the letters and
number "gray" out making it difficult if not impossible to read the text. I
have a ATI 9800 pro series card:
Questions:
1) Could the card be causing this problem?
2) If so, is there a way to troulbe shoot this card?

Go to Start/Run, and type DEVMGMT.MSC , highlight your Display Adapter
device, Action menu, "Uninstall", then restart Windows, to find the device
drivers again automatically.

Download and install the latest Video drivers from ATI's web site.
This should help eliminate the drivers as the cause.
