Using my keyboard in ANY Application Crashes it!

Brand spanking new fresh install of WinXP Pro x64... Finish ALL the
Windows Updates... When I try to do, well, pretty much anything
(install something, use MSIE/Firefox, anything other than core Windows
/ My Computer stuff) as soon as I press any key on the keyboard, the
application crashes (only the App, not Windows).

I've been able to install Office2K3 & Firefox by creating a folder
manually using Windows Explorer, then browsing to the folder using
mouse-only... But this is just for "let's see what happens if"
purposes, as (obviously) apps hat crash upon keyboard use are utterly
useless.

There is nothing like this that I found on Google, and I'm kinda'
resigned to the fact that I'm going to have to re-install and
re-update... But if I were to know what to avoid - or if a known cure
is available - I'd sure like to know before I kill another 1/2 day.

I've built the system myself, so any tech questions that on may have on
it, I should be able to answer - just don't want to write a 1000 word
essay that is 99% unimportant... At least, not tonight!

Thanks gang!

Yes, it is WinXP Pro x64. The error basically goes - I mouse to an
input field (MSIE Address Bar, Install Location, S/N entry field,
whatever), and as soon as I press something on the keyboad, the cursor
disappears, and the application locks up. However, I do still have
mouse control, and the only way to close the App is to hit the [X]...
Then the standard warning about how the program is not responding press
button to end it now.

Finally! This is the first time I've found a shred of information that I am
experiencing.
I am having this exact problem too.
Seems any 32 bit app. locks when a keystroke is made. Windows and the mouse
remain unhindered. In fact, the keyboard continues to work fine in any 64 bit
environment. Actually, I tranfered the link to this page from my locked up
x86 to this x64 window. Often, I have to write in Notepad and cut and paste
to get by.
I too have a self built system. I have tried 3 keyboards, Ps/2 and USB. Ive
tried multiple drivers. I've spent days and days searching for something that
hints at a solution.
My system is as follows:
WinXP Pro x64
ASUS Maximus Formula
Intel PC2Duo E6850 3 Ghz, 1333 FSB
8 Gigs (4 x 2Gig) DDR2 1000Mhz RAM
HD Audio
BFTech GeForce 8600 GTS, 512Mhts
600 Watt PSU
8 120mm's and 1 80mm fans (Stays kewl!)
WD Raptor 150G, 10K SATA (Weee)
WD Caviar 500G SATA
1 SATA DVW and 1 SATA DVD
No Floppy, but can boot from stick.

System Rocks but has this one defect that I cannot live with!
Some one help!!!!!

I can stop you here, as this is the board I'm running, and after
searching ASUS's SLOWWWWWW tech support, I found this little gem:

Question:
My keyboard may sometimes stop responding under Windows VISTA after I
have installed either ASUS EPU driver or AiSuite utility from driver
CD.
What can I do to resolve this problem?

Answer:
Please kindly remove your current installation of ASUS EPU driver and
AiSuite Utility, then install AiSuite from the link below to fix this
problem:
http://tinyurl.com/2dsnwr

Note: You do not need to reinstall the driver for ASUS EPU, as it is
already bundled inside the AiSuite Utility provided above.

Considering how new this board is, not having a 64-bit installer on
their own driver disk is pretty appalling, but, it is what it is, and
here's your answer.

PS. Tried it, works perfectly, and my system runs "flawlessly"

Viridel, Thanks for the input. The updated driver for AI Suite 1.03.15 was
the problem. It is available on the ASUS site but like you said, "SLOW!"
unless you do it in the middle of the night.
Since we have the same board, let me ask you...
Does your Probe II show wacked out readings?
I had intermittent warnings with two fans showing 0 RPM so I reinstalled it.
Now it shows my CPU is 35-37 degrees and then suddenly it is 500 degrees!
Have you run into this?
I am going to work all the bugs out and then reintall everything from
scratch with known good drivers and all the appropriate updates, defrag, then
ghost it. I'll remake a DVD with all the proper drivers updates and software
for convenience.

Yeah, mine seems off as well (CPU at 32 degrees, while the MB is "in
danger" at 42)... I don't even know why I installed Probe2 though...
I never use it... In fact, I just uninstalled it.
