USB Problems

I was running a powered USB hub off my desktop with a couple of devices
running off it for ages without incident. My problems started when I took
the computer out of suspend (as I always do) and the computer had frozen up.
I rebooted and an error message came up saying that a USB device had
malfunctioned and was not recognised. It turned out to be the USB hub with
the computer functioning normally once I unplugged the USB hub. Now my
mouse and other devices such as a web camera work OK. However, when I try
and use a multi-card reader and then my digital camera (to download digital
photos) I receive the same error message and cannot get these devices to
work. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have checked and the power needs
of the troublesome devices is well within spec of my computer USB ports. I
am running XP Professional which is always kept updated and I religiously
keep my virus program etc up to date and also run a firewall so a virus etc
is not the problem.

Cheers

There is a recipe here. Basically, doing this is to force Windows to
re-enumerate the USB hardware.

Solution warns about USB mouse possibly not working. But if you also
have a wireless USB keyboard that won't work either. Been there, done
that. System Restore solved problem.
