I need some advice... I was trying to plug in one of those LED USB lights
that looks like a flexible cable that is supposed to plug into the USB jack
and after plugging it in, I smelt a strange smell from the back of my
computer and unplugged it real quick. Now I can not get anything to
function that was plugged into any of the USB ports... Device manager tells
me that they are working, but can not get anything plugged in to work, i.e.,
the printer, etc... Sounds to me that the light had some sort of a short in
it that shorted out the USB ports. I shut down and put in a PCI/USB card
and still can not get anything to function through the PCI/USB card, but
WinXP Device manager reports it present. Help! Is there a way to uninstall
the onboard USB Root hub or onboard ports so it will run off the PCI card?
Any help will be appreciated.

....ummm, have you installed the drivers for the PCI/USB card ?
.....probably no point fighting with the USB stack if you've damaged the
hardware ? !
If you've b******d it up. "...strange smell" ...let's hoooooope it's'
still under warranty or gaurantee of some sort, and of course you WILL NOT
mention plugging in such a silly and obviously risky peripheral !!

regards, Richard
