USB/MP3 Key Problem

Hi Everyone!

I bought a MP3/USB player/key a few weeks back and everything worked smoothly... drivers installations, file upload/download, etc. for a while. And then, a week ago, it wouldn't connect to my PC anymore!

I would plug the key into my computer and, as usual, WinXP reads it as a USB Mass Storage Device. I can then open the drive and edit/delete files. However, a few seconds after conencting, the floppy drive would scan for a floppy disk, and then the USB key would be disconnected.

I've tried lots of things to get it fixed- putting a floppy in to the floppy drive, diconnecting/reconnecting USB device, restarting computer, checking for conflicts in drivers, testing USB cable and ports for problems. Non of it seems to be helping with my problem though.

Do any of you know what exactly is the problem? If so, do you have a solution? Is the floppy connected to USB devices in any way?

THX!!!!

By the way, this problem only occurs on the 1 PC.

You could try and uninstall the USB controllers in device manager and then do a restart to reinstall them. This could fix the problem.
Do any other USB devices give you problems?

Would it be a problem with the USB controller at all? After all, I can run all other USB devices (mouse, memory card reader, printer) on the USB port(s) with absolutely no problems at all. As for problems- no, nothing else has experienced problems with the USB ports.

Thanks for responding so quickly!

It maps itself to drive letter L:\

The following is the setup for my other drive letters:
A: Floppy
C: HD1
D: DVD-ROM
E: CD-RW
F: HD2
G:/H:/I:/J:/K: 8-in-1 Memory Card Reader
L: Designated USB Drive

I've tried disconnecting the memory card reader so the USB connects to G: but the problem still occurs. On the software side, there are no conflicts between the USB and the floppy.

Also, it doesn't switch to the floppy immediately. Usually, there is about a 5-6 second time difference between the USB being read and being automatically ejected. The disk may be used during this time (5 seconds).

I have no idea where to look next :(

Hello again. I'm just renewing this post, hoping that someone can help eventually. :)

New developments in this "saga": I've found that the cd and dvd drives cannot be recognised by some programs. For example, a music cd player that's meant to read CDs once they are loaded into the drives actually can't find the drives. Like the USB, the program would try and read from the floppy, and ignore the actual optical drives.

Anyone?

Sorry to bother everyone again but this message is to say that the problem has been fixed! It turns out that this was a known issue called "USB device wakeup S3 hang up" that only troubles the XP OS. I've downloaded a patch and the device is working again.

Thanks everyone who tried to help!
