Hi,
Plugging a HP DVD into my desktop, I get a message "Unrecognized USB
device....."
I then plug it into my laptop and it is recognized, no problem, every time.
Return to the desktop, plug it back in and it is recognized immediately, and
remains that way untill I restart the computer and it again is not
recognized.
How can I fix this problem? It is a new PC and all up to date with Windows
XP updates.
Thanks,
Bob

Hi,
I'm not sure if this is the same problem I had because I couldn't get the
USB drive to be recognised at all after it errors during use. Anyway I
powered down and pulled out the power lead, after that the USB drive was OK
any time I plugged it in.

Hi Neil,

Well, thanks for the tip as this also just worked for me. I was always
unplugging and reconnecting the USB cable and never thought of doing the
same thing to the power supply cable. Duh! Simple fix!
Thanks again, Bob

Hi Bob,
Glad it solved the problem. I think it's because the USB ports stay powered
when you just shut the PC down and pulling he plug must reset them in some
way.
