To: everyone who has an opinion on Windows 8.1
What IS that opinion? I'm trying to figure out what more people think about Windows 8.1 vs Windows 8. So far, I've found that most people dislike it. They think Windows 8.1 has some potentially good features, but those features aren't worth the problems it causes or the features it gets rid of. What do you think? What did Windows 8 improve? What did it make worse? And what did it fail to address at all? If you have an answer to any of these questions, or an opinion outside of these questions, then please respond. I want to know what you think!
To: the Windows team
I wish you would make the start menu button in the bottom left corner available to toggle on or off. Also, you should have the option to revert back to Windows 8 (because you say it yourselves: "After you install Windows 8.1, you won't be able to use the recovery partition on your PC to go back to your previous version of Windows."). All I really hear about Windows 8.1 is how is causes more problems than it fixes. Between the crashes and glitches and new features that take more getting used to, I've been holding off on getting Windows 8.1 (and still am) on my laptop until you either make an update to address some of these problems or a Windows 8.2 (or something like it) comes out (my grandma has Windows 8.1, and I use her computer sometimes).
I LOVE Windows 8. I've only found a couple problems with my new computer that I don't even think can be attributed to Windows 8. But I feel like, with Windows 8.1, you are trying to make the people who don't like Windows 8 happy more than they are trying to keep the people who already liked Windows 8 happy. One of the things I liked a lot about Windows 8 was the fact that it was different. It was a new approach. I LOVED that (and still do). It got rid of the start button in the bottom left corner that was ALWAYS there, it had a totally new interface, and it was just plain interesting. But Windows 8.1 takes a lot of that away. For example, the start button is back (with no option to turn it off), and the Photos app no longer syncs with Facebook, SkyDrive, or Flickr.
Basically, if you want to make an upgrade for people who don't like Windows 8, that's fine with me. I just wish you would continue to work with the people who DID like Windows 8 as well, by making the app updates both Windows 8.1 AND Windows 8 friendly, and not taking away awesome features (such as the syncing with Facebook, SkyDrive, and / or Flickr feature with the Photos app).
