I have been in the update site, ( I did a system recovery) and i currently
have SP1 but during the "checking for the latest updates for your computer"
it has been checking for over 1.5 hours...what do i do..i want to download
SP2 but it always redirects me back to this step.

Get it here:

Ignore what it says about IT Professionals and Developers. It's the SP2
you need.

Read this before installing it:

Sometimes I get lucky, this was an easy one as far to many people have had
problems when trying to use the Windows Update site to install SP2 on the
fly. Best to download the file, do the install and then make a
'Slipstreamed' CD of your original Windows XP CD with SP2 incorporated on
the slipstreamed CD just in case you need it.
