Updates and the crashing computer.

I'm trying to install updates for Nvidia - whatever that is - but my PC doesn't seem to recognise them. It crashes instead of restarts, then I have to go through all the system restore palaver and the updates still have not been installed. It feels like
Groundhog Day!!
