mr broke it again

Hi there again.

Well lads/lasses i have a two fold problem this time and hope you can assist. The 1st one is this; Whenever my pc tries to install updates this message comes up"failure to configure updates pls do not turn your pc off" it gets to 7% of install then usually after a few minutes the screen comes up as normal. However for the past couple of months it has been taking longer+longer to start on normal screen at last attempt it took 53 minutes for me to be able to use the p.c.. Whilst i know you guys are out there ready+willing to help, i don't like bothering you as i assume it's something i have done. IN frustration(and a high probability of me lobbing the pc out the window) i decide to get my old tower out and set it up again thinking it was ok just a wee bit slow. So i get it out and wire it up etc, switch it on and it comes up fine. . except for 2 exclamation marks next to my disc drives so i find out that its code 19 errors tho i'm puzzled how this could be as i uninstalled all excess progs before i put it away(with a view to selling it later!) On the"help+support"site there were many similar or exact same questions so i looked at the replies that were given, such as uninstall then reinstall device, update drivers etc, use installation disc and instructions on how to do these things but my pc don't recognise my Pioneerdvd-rw dvr215 or my Tsstcorp cddvdw sh-5203p so consequently i try to reinstall all drivers from disc but pc does'nt acknowledge anything 'cept my hard drives!. one of the other answers was to "press f 11" on start up then press "last known good configuration" its not in f11 and i vaguely remembered that it maybe f 8 that had it. So after dozens of attempts to"f 8" i'v given up. Pressing f 8 sounds simple but i cannot get it to come up into safe mode and to rub salt into the wound it says ""press up or down to select operating system then press enter, this does'nt work either so i wait the 30 seconds then have to start again. No doubt you're reachin for the migraine tablets,1 i had another pair of teensy weensy gripes but they can wait. Thanks in advance for the time+effort you'll put into fixing this for me My old tower system is XP Home edition the latest is a windows 8 piece of sh . . .er sorry bout that.

Cheers lads/lasses
