While trying to find a NetMeter for monitoring the speed of the broadband
connection I have, I suddenly found Security Alert messages on my computer
warning me that there are spywares on my computer etc and so I must go to
the web-site of some software named NetProject and use their services to
remove the spyware etc.The same software has also added a Toolbar named
Security Toolbar 7.1 to the toolbar I have in I. E. 7.
I am wondering as to how to remove this intryuder and askMicrosoft as to how
this intruder could push in, in spite of the Firewall being ON and my Virus
software QuickHeal operational? I am asking QuickHeal too the same question.

Any advice on removing this unwanted bar would be appreciated.

No firewall will protect you if you browsing habits are unsafe.

Routinely practice Safe-Hex.

SuperAntispyware - Free

After the software is updated, it is suggested scanning the system in Safe
Mode.

Consider utilizing proven/quality AV/A-S applications.
Real-time AV applications - for viral malware.
Do not utilize more than one (1) real-time anti-virus scanning engine!
Disable the e-mail scanning function during installation (Custom
Installation on some AV apps.) as it provides no additional protection. In
fact most experts believe that scanning incoming and outgoing mail causes
e-mail file corruption.

A-S applications - for non-viral malware.
The effectiveness of an individual A-S scanners can be wide-ranging and
oftentimes a collection of scanners is best. There isn't one software that
cleans and immunizes you against everything. That's why you need multiple

another may miss, (grab'em all).

"...Windows Defender did excel in behavior-based protection, which detects

Good luck :)

IE7 has an option to be run without extensions: iexplore.exe -extoff

You may probably use Tools->Manage Addons menu to turnoff, turnon add-ons.

You visited some unidentified site that said you were infected and you
just willingly went installing their software? You really think the
Internet is always safe?

No. I did not install the software. It went and lodged itself. That is the
ingenuity of these intruders.

Assuming you're on WinXP, use Windows Firewall in conjunction with:
Seconfig XP 1.0
http://seconfig.sytes.net/
Seconfig XP is able configure Windows not to use TCP/IP as transport
protocol for NetBIOS, SMB and RPC, thus leaving TCP/UDP ports 135, 137-139
and 445 (the most exploited Windows networking weak point) closed.)
OR
Configuring NT-services much more secure.

Restore Your System.

I run XP OS, and I got this Virus, or Ad-ware (whatever) this
afternoon. After screwing around with trying to remove it it for an
hour, running Lava-soft anti-Adware and
SpyBot, I went to Control Panel, switched to Catagory View (left tool-
bar), and
selected Performance and Management in the Categories.

Then, again in the upper area of the left tool-bar, selected Restore
System, clicked Restore my Computer to an earlier time button,
and then on the calendar that appears picked Sunday 5/18 as the
"restore to"
date. This solved the problem...after the system restored to the 5/18
baseline,
the problem was GONE.
