Hi Lisa,
Have you tried the simple solution of just using System Restore?
This sounds like the problem sometimes seen in XP where the common tasks
pane was seen on the desktop. This appeared when a user customized their
personal desktop folder (that'd be C:\Users\<user>\desktop in Vista). Can
you supply a screenshot?
