Unusual video issue - stumped all so far...

Okay, something weird is going on right now. I don't know what triggered it,
but I've been doing a lot of troubleshooting lately, before giving up and
reformatting my HD.

2407WFP-HC gets no signal on boot-up until Windows is loaded. Only then does
it turn on. The screen is connected via DVI (looks noticeably better than
VGA).

---

Troubleshooting :

When I plug a second simultaneous monitor (a BenQ CRT) in the video card's
(Asus EN6600GT) VGA slot , BOTH the CRT and the LCD display the full boot-up
routine (DOS visuals). And of course, the Windows portion.

Leave the VGA slot unplugged (with only the DVI plugged-in), and the whole
DOS boot-up routine is bypassed by the monitor again. It gets no signal
until Windows is loaded.

What gives?

Since Windows isn't loaded while no picture is appearing, how can it be a
Windows problem?

What happens if you boot from a live CD like Knoppix or even the XP setup
disks.
I suspect you might be wasting your time by reinstalling XP. Do you need to
see the startup screens for everyday use?

Maybe look for a BIOS setting about first display, (long shot), or ask in a
hardware forum to see if someone has a similar problem. Maybe Nvidia forums?

Look in the BIOS for possible settings.. I don't know what you'd look
for, just a thought.

Try a hardware group where such oddities are commonplace.
