Windows 2003 Uninstalling Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition trial

I took a class that required Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition. I didn't
have any unusued space and I only have one partition, so I installed the
180-day Evaluation Edition included with my textbook in an alternate file
path on the same partition as Windows XP Professional. After this, I found
the following FAQ website and statement:

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsserver/bb430832.aspx

"Q. If I installed Windows XP Professional on a server running the
evaluation version of Windows Server 2003 R2, will Windows XP Professional be
removed when the 180-day limit on the Windows Server 2003 R2 software is
reached?
A. Yes, if you installed them on the same partition."

I am concerned this applies in my case . . . I am finished the class now and
I would like to uninstall the Windows Server 2003 trial before the 180 days
expires. I have found the following instructions to remove a Windows
operating system from a partition with two versions of Windows installed:

Article ID:888023, "How to remove a second installation of a Windows
operating system from a partition"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888023/en-us

If I use the instructions from this site to remove the Windows Server 2003
trial, can I leave my Windows XP installation intact and avoid losing XP or
any data when the 180-day evaluation period ends? If this uninstall method
would leave files on my hard drive designed to prevent the trial from being
re-installed and re-started, could these files also interfere with my XP
installation when the 180-day period ends even after the Server 2003 trial
has been removed?

If this solution won't work, is there any way to prevent the outcome
predicted in the FAQ above?

Thank You,
Rachael

Rachael this newsgroup is for SBS 2003. You'll probably get a better
response in a Windows Server specific newsgroup.

Is the system a dual boot? If both are on the same partition and if you installed XP after the W2K3 Trial on the same partition you will lose it.

If on separate partitions then there is no problem.

Actually the OP cross posted to both, but I have no idea why the SBS group
was included.

I didn't notice the cross posting but regardless it really doesn't relate to
SBS 2003 at all.

It is dual boot. They are on the same partition, but XP Pro was installed
first--it came preinstalled on my machine. Will the order of installation
effect the outcome?

Thanks,
Rachael

P.S. Sorry about the posting mistake. I don't know how to change it now.

Hi Rachel,

Before you uninstall the Server W2K3 Enterprise you should make sure that in
the boot.ini file on the primary drive is pointing to the Windows XP is set
to boot first. Frankly you can take the Server 2003 lines out of the
boot.ini completely. After that you can uninstall it safely and without
worry.

Good luck!
