A buddy has XP Media Center and he needs to uninstall a vpn client then
install a later version vpn client.
He cannot install it from the program's uninstall applet and he can't
uninstall it from add remove programs. When he goes to control panel\user
acounts it reports he has an administrator account. He reports there is no
error message when he attempts to uninstall. . He booted into safe mode
but still cannot uninstall it. Does he sign on differently in Safe Mode?
Any suggestions?

Help!

Tom !

When you say your friend does not get an error message does that
mean the window shutsdown while uninstalling ? or the uninstall
process completes but you still see that VPN client there ?

You can try to refresh the Installer Service by following the below
steps.

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

3. At the command prompt, type the command msiexec.exe /unregister and
then
press ENTER.

4. Type command msiexec /regserver, and then press ENTER.

5. Restart the computer.

Let us know if this helps.

Hi Vinod, per instructions furnished by vendor he went to add/remove
programs located the program, cisco vpn v4, left clicked on remove
(he doesn't remember if it restarted) but the prgram is still installed and
still works and, of course, he can't install the new version of the vpn
client.

I'll have him try your suggestion,

Tom

I haven't caught up w/ the user yet. Do you think the problem may have to
do w/ logging on in an administrator account?

Vinod, turns out the program was somehow corrupt the vendor emailed
instructions and had to be uninstalled manually.
The new version was installed without problems.
