Unable to Start Software Protection Service

I am currently running Windows RT on a Lenovo IdeaTab K3011W-F (aka Lynx). This device was used by two individuals before, and so had a previous configuration. I performed a factory reset on said device, except now Windows refuses to activate, so I can't update/customize/upgrade, etc. It's not immediately prohibiting use, but eventually this can be seen as detrimental to the security of the system.


I have traced the symptoms back to what seems like a reasonable explanation, which is that the Software Protection Service isn't running, and when it is prompted to run it returns an error stating: Error 5: Access is Denied.


When I go to activate Windows from the "Change PC Settings" sidebar, I am given a button that says activate, but it displays a message that reads: "Activation error description not found".
