unable to set date on my PC

My PC was recently infected by Trojan virus and I think it screwed up the
date on my computer. And now I am not able to change to the date. It always
goes back to 2005. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue.
 
Usually an indication the battery on the MB went bad.

Can you please explain how it "goes back"? Does it do this right after you
try to change it, or does it revert when the system is restarted? What
sort of time frame is involved?

The two different scenarios point to different problems. If it resets
after a power-off restart, that can be a simple motherboard battery
replacement.
