oh the joys of Vista... once again my microphone isn't working.. it's
a front mic.. when I go to configure it it shows TWO front-mics..
http://www.mayacove.com/mic/ss_mic.gif
why is it showing two when I only have one? and why does it say
"working" next to "Rear Mic"?? I don't have a "Rear" mic, whatever
that is....

again, main question: why does it show TWO front-mics???? (and how do
I know which one is the one I have???)

(am SO SICK of Vista.. anybody wanna buy a PC????? ) am getting
closer and closer to switching to a mac, I swear...)

I would appreciate a prompt response as I need to make a phone call
today w/Skype....

thank you very much...

Did you try simply switching to the front mic by highlighting it and
selecting 'Set Default' button? I can't see, or hear which is the
right one, but it is definitely one of the two "front" mics. Try one,
then the other.

Replying in case this helps.

Frank, if you're not here to offer help why dont you just stay
away????? I have been using computers (both macs and pc's) for about
28 years now, I have NEVER used such a an unbelievable bad OS as
Vista, and, given the posts of a lot of folks here, I'm sure you're
aware that many other people are having the same experience w/
Vista... if, however, you'd rather have your head buried in the sand
about this, and just insult people who express their frustrations with
the piece of garbage that this OS is hey, be my guest... (and yes,
if I had known what unbelievable crap Vista is of course I would have
purchased a mac instead of a pc.....)

oh and yes -- I guess it IS beyond my comprehension why the microphone
would stop working from one day to the other for no reason (since I
certainly didn't change any settings for it and haven't disconnected
it from the machine..) in XP all you had to do was connect the mic
and voila -- you had to do NOTHING to make it work, it worked right
away, on its own, amazing, huh??????

I also would like to know, why does it say "(Monitor)" next to one of
the mics listed in that setup window???

thanks.......

You can't reason with Frank. He's a psychopath. Anybody having any
problem or being even a little critical of Vista Frank spews forth
obscenities, accuses you of being stupid, starts spreading lies about
you, etc.. Frank also claims he's handsome, rich and has property all
over France. Like I said, he's 100% nuts. Frank should either be
ignored or flame the crap out of him. That's all this idiot and
resident troll is good for.

so if after doing all this, http://www.mayacove.com/mic/mic.html the
mic STILL doesn't work, what then????? huh?? Frank??? oh and by
the way, Frank, when a new OS comes out it's usually supposed to be an
IMPROVEMENT over previous ones, not be a step back to the stone age of
computing... in XP I didn't have to go into the Control Panel ONCE to
set up the microphone (the same mic I have now..) in fact I never had
to do ANYTHING for the mic to work in XP except connect it to the
computer... some improvement, huh?? WHAT A JOKE, I SWEAR....

I couldn't call my niece on Skype today for her wedding anniversary
because of this.. thank you Microsoft....

(and yes, I AM slowly getting ready to put my pc on sale.. and thanks
Microsoft also for all the money this will cost me (including the $650
I paid for my copy of Photoshop for the pc and other software I have
purchased for this piece of crap OS..) I SWEAR Microsoft owes me BIG
TIME for this... and I really hope one day I can make them pay....)
good night................

Would only be guessing which wouldn't help you. If this microphone
came with some hardware go to Device Manager and disable it's driver
then reboot and Vista just might install it correctly. If it is just
some CODEC you installed, find it, and delete it, reboot and reinstall
again. It sounds like Vista somehow managed to install multiple copies
and no surprise is getting confused.

Many audio cards and some motherboards now support newer audio
configurations where various inputs/outputs can serve multiple
purposes depending on how they get configured. I'd be willing to bet
if you go to Device Manager and look you'll see some yellow caution
flag. If so, that's a sure sign Windows didn't configure something
correctly and you basically need to uninstall there reinstall.
