I am using Vista Home Premium with AVG Free anti Virus and NoAdware.
I intend to delete AVG and Install Trend 2008 internet Security.
Will it run along side Windows Defender or will i have to shut it down, If
so how?
Sorry i am not very technical,

They are different Programs to protect you from different problems.
Just remember you can only have one Anti-virus running on your computer
whereas, you can have more tham one Anti-spyware , which is what Defender
is(Anti-Spyware)

I have just recieved this from Trend after asking the same
question..............

AVG free and Windows's Bit Defender are both incompatible with PC Cillin
2008's firewall . PC Cillin alone can fully cover your PC so will not need
any extra Anti-virus.

open defender > tools > options > disbale realtime.

run msconfig > startups > remove/ uncheck windows dender.

THEN go to Services tab and disable Defenders service.

Remove Windows Defender from Vista System Startup
1. Click Windows Start button, Type MSCONFIG in the Start Search box and
Press the Enter
2. Click Startup tab, Scroll down and UnCheck Windows Defender Startup
Item. Click OK to Save config change
3. No need to reboot, Click Exist without restart

Is this all neccesary?
Many thanks,
Somerton

trend does all the work. It'll tell you what it's shutting down.
It'll also ask to remove anything [not removed] that could interfere with it's
operation.

I only jumped in here because I'm up for renewal again, and I've been fighting
with trend over the same problem for the past 2 years.
See the 3 PC claim on #2.
That is ONLY good for your 1st purchase. A renewal you become a 2nd class
citizen. After 10 years with Trend they offered me a 10% discount with a
renewal for a program I can no longer use because they got it in their heads
that I'm running it on 3 machines. I can't make any guarantees on their seats
thing. I have no idea how they got it in their heads I'm using it on 3
machines. All 3 seats are filled. A renewal, I will once again have to change
my name, and since all 3 seats are filled, their words, the program won't
register.
It took help from Trend to renew last time.
I've been at it with their support team to DELETE my account so I can get a NEW
program with 3 empty seats, so I can register the program with my name.

So far [again been at it with them for more than 2 years on this problem],
they've pretty much ignored my requests to delete my account.
I just wish I could find a better anti virus program.
Threatening with jump ship to Norton 360 doesn't even make them flinch. And it
shouldn't, Norton 360 can't compete with any of trends 3 versions.
Where is the competition for trend ?

I don't really know if Trends tech support has tanked, since I've had zero need
for any kind of support other than this name change problem with seats that's
gone nowhere.
It's a great program.

The version you're asking about will ALSO disable windows firewall.
I'm testing the cheapie version this minute. It doesn't have a firewall, but it
disables windows defender.
I can't tell you how good windows firewall actually is. It gets the same
results as trends firewall did when I ran it at GRC.com.
I'm still waiting for the weekly report to see if Windows firewall has blocked
anything other than cookies.
I know the scans don't differ from #1 version to #2.
And I'm sure if I got hit with anything from the web this week, Trend will show
it after the scan tomorrow.
The scan setups are identical also, you can disable sections of the drive to
NOT scan. But not by using the SCAN NOW button. That runs a default thing that
scans every byte on your machine from the memory to the last memory stick or
drive on the machine. For me that's an 8 hour plus scan. It's ALSO the
MANDATORY 1st scan trend runs to give you a clean machine after 1st setup.
After that you should only use custom scans, they had a 'ignore already scanned
files'. I never got that to work, when I went to support, they made me download
#2 [I was still on 2007's subscription]. They removed the 'skip already scanned
files.'. that would take my weekly scan down from 4-5 hours, to maybe 1/2 hour
max.

The big diff in #2 & #1 is the firewall missing in #1. You may want a firewall,
Trend alerts you when something on the web tries to stick garbage on your
machine immediately. I haven't seen a warning from windows firewall since I
turned it on.
So it all boils down to the scan tomorrow if something made it thru windows
firewall whether I bite the bullet, change my name, fight with tech support and
try to renew #2, or go and buy #1.

This just one more example of Trends support not knowing their product top to
bottom.
Installing trend will AUTOMATICALLY turn off the windows firewall & windows
defender, AND remove any incompatible virus programs.
Though I have to bite my lip on this, I'm running the trial of their 39.95
version. And just decided to switch over to the Pro trial. Saw some things that
might make it worth an $80.00 a year subscription, and it wouldn't install with
the other trial still installed, and didn't offer to uninstall, just to
upgrade. Asked for a serial number I don't have.

After hearing about your problems with TrendMicro support I'd just dump
their software. Go with NOD32 for your AV and pick up a couple of AS
programs and run them in addition to Windows Defender. Windows firewall
should be just fine or you can go with the Advanced Windows Firewall.
If you watch what you are doing while on the web you shouldn't have to
deal with any adware, spyware or more serious malware. Personally, I haven't
been infected with any adware, spyware or malware for the past two years.

7 years virus free. because of trend.

>C.B.

I think even you and I have Deja Vu'd this exact thing.

I'm now using the PRO trial. Can't install the remote file lock service without
buying, which makes sense. That's one scary feature.
machine gets stolen, report it to trend, the machine accesses the web, and
trend locks the machine.
trend lo jack software with the pro version.
Can't be unlocked even with the password until it's reported recovered to
trend.

There's nothing wrong with Trend except this ridiculous seats problem. If you
read closely, I wish there was a program that could compete with trend. Norton
can't. I don't know about Mcaffee, but I'm sure the only ones that will be able
to compete are the costly front runners.

3 hour updates, seemingly bullet proof, doesn't load the machine down even with
24/7 on. A scan [Sundays] drags a bit, but after the initial clean every byte
it sees, a 10 hour scan last night, the scheduled scans can be set to JUST
where you know infections may appear. That drops things to just the C: drive.
And the D: recovery drive. and a 4 hour scan on a weekend. your mileage may
vary based on drive space.

I've tried windows defender and the windows firewall this week.
windows firewall is as good as any I've tried. Possibly better once you find
the extra settings.

BUT I haven't found a virus program I like anywhere near as much as I like
trends in the past 2 weeks.

That includes trends cheapo version that is just virus, spy ware. That one
disables windows defender.
with trend I can hover a file, and if it's infected I have a popup
[individually configured] in a matter of seconds.

I'm pretty sure when this trial runs out, I'll be buying the pro version.

> If you watch what you are doing while on the web you shouldn't have to

My paranoia couldn't handle that level of paranoia.
It's a minefield out there. Knowing that is the 1st thing. I don't know how to
tiptoe the web.
I see crap on totally off the wall web sites all the time, and there's no way
to guess is this safe or not. You have to assume it isn't safe.
I've seen garbage [ hijackers] on the excite and yahoo home pages labeled as
advertising. I'm sure who ever sold those ads was pounding the pavement shortly
after. But they had no more idea what was going up UNTIL after the barn burned
down than the average browser.

take a look at a Yahoo search lately.

Mcaffee has partnered with them and here's the result
1 potentially harmful website is marked on this page.
Warning: Dangerous Downloads
what is it, it's www-platinum-celebs.com/actresses/allison-munn
Prior to Mcaffee labeling, it was left up to whatever software on your machine
there was to identify things.

trend has a feature with IE and trend pro to check individual pages. [doesn't
work in firefox, yet] Trend's gone out a limb, and it's tested and found
nothing wrong with the site.
Actually I would guess someone just compiled reports from their other versions
that are alert happy, and the individuals are left to tell trend if they
guessed correctly on a sites safety or not.
So in this case it's a matter do you trust Mcaffee or Trend ?

Well I've visited the site many times, sitting on it now, and if there were
something doing anything strange, trend would say so. It has no trouble at all
in interrupting anything I'm doing and popping up a warning something needs
your attention.

I just figured out something with these trails, trend's trials are 1 month
long. They have 3 versions. So for 3 months out of the year you could have FREE
protection, I don't know about the others, I haven't kept the useless programs
on the machine long enough to remember how long their trials are. But I'm
thinking there have to be at least 9 more trials out there that could provide
free, legal year round protection.
None of trends trials are crippled.

I use windows defender along with windows firewall , webroot spyware , trend
micro antivirus 2007(regected the 2008 suite because I don't want all my
eggs in one basket) . All came with my PC when I bought it and everything
plays happy together . Home premium 32bit .
