I have the equipment for a network installed, router and modem as a result of have AT&T's U-verse service. I have purchased a new computer with Windows 7 installed. I still have my old XP Windows computer which is connected to the gateway router. When I read the instructs for using the network to transfer data it says to connect both computers to the router (which I can do) and start both computers as an administrator user. Checking the XP users list I find 3 possibilities. An administrator, myself (listed as a computer administrator and a guest but that account is off.
My question. If I start the XP computer as I usually do now choice for user is given. It simply starts the system. Can I assume that I have "administrator" credentials so I can use the network transfer capability. I have the transfer program on the new machine and I have downloaded a copy to my XP machine but I have not installed it. BTW, the new machine is not here yet but will be by the weekend.
Would appreciate some guidance, specifically the question about a administrator on both machines. Any guidance provided will be appreciated.
