Can I transfer a valid purchased Windows 8 licence from a computer I don't use to one I do use?
I bought two Windows licence upgrades (from Windows 7) under a special offer, but only discovered later (and after the offer expired) that the second purchase didn't go through, and so I only have one valid activation key. By that time I had already used the key on the computer A, and had none for the computer B. Computer B is the one I want to use regularly, leaving computer A unused, so I am happy to remove Windows 8 from computer A in order to use the licence on computer B.
I believe I will have to activate Windows on computer B by telephone, and remove the licence from computer A before activating on computer B. How do I do that in practice? Does that mean booting from a Windows CD, reformatting, and aborting any attempt to install the operating system from CD (so that the drive will be absolutely empty)? Do I need to note the licence key or any other information from computer A ('About' screen or elsewhere) before I do this? (I am not referring to backing up my data here).
