Tough book DVD issue

I was given an unused Panasonic Tough Book CJ-29 for our club's use. We need it mostly for presentation with a projector using the CD/DVD function. I cannot get the DVD to play, When we put in DVD it's not recognized and a message appears that states we need to insert a disc??? It was suggested I update the Media player which I did but on the Media's player menu there is no mention of playing a DVD. Thus the DVD is still not functioning. How do I fix this issue?
