Some devices drain more energy than you realize. And, yes, other devices only waste a tiny amount, but you might be surprised at how they add up. This tool gives an estimate of how much "energy vampires" cost you each year.

Duke Energy's new tool asks you what common devices you have plugged into your home, and then it calculates how much you're likely wasting per year, on those devices. You can adjust the quantity and see the total amount, or the amount per device.

Your idle desktop computer, for example, is a pricier vampire. Your mobile chargers only waste about $2.00 a year, but combine several of those with some other seemingly small potatoes, and the total amount may surprise you.
