The Reason For Creating A Image Back Up!

Hi! I wish I could get this in everyone's head. What a good feeling it is to know you can be back up and running exactly like the day you created the back up image; even if you have to replace your HDD. Sure you can probably restore back to factory and then spend days restoring your Apps. and Windows up dates and possibly drivers.
Why not get your PC exactly like you want it and then create a back up image with a 3 rd party software like Macrium Reflect. Do what ever. Live dangerous. Take chances if you want. You really mess up and even get infected . No problem:you just put W PE 3.1 CD(W7) (WPE4) W8 in your DVD drive and restore your OS just like it was the day you created the image. In 15 minutes+ you will be back up and running just like nothing ever happened.
I've been there and done that many times.
Why aren't you doing this?? I just don't understand why you're not doing this. It'd so easy and will remove a lot of worry!! Take the time and effort to learn how to do this. Please!!!

You can't get this into everyone's heads.Members have a choice and most are aware of the headaches if they don't.
If they choose to take the risk, that's their choice.
You have mentioned all this in another thread, why start a new thread?:)

I guess because I'm old and senile, and don't remember I created another thread like this. Back up images are the most important thing you can do IMHO. I'll try my best to pound this into everyone's head and long as I'm allowed to !;);)
PS I'm really more interested in convincing guests than I am members.:)

Sorry. Wrong approach.
Trying to jam your opinions down everyone's necks repeatedly can have a negative effect.
By all means post your opinion once and we appreciate it.:)

I have just searched our forum. Yes I do mention creating images of your OS on several of my replies. That's only because I think it's very important to create these images on a external HD. If this is a repeat thread, please delete this thread!!
Thank you!!

I don't think people realize the importance of image files donateo until they lose everything unfortunately.
I know for me I started with Drive Image way back in the 90's and in the days when Windows 98 wasn't resilient like newer versions are,one big mistake and you were back spending the whole day redoing your system, and Drive Image gave me the freedom to push that button and be back in 8 minutes. That for me was freedom to learn without fear of blowing out Windows and I took that ball and ran with it. It wasn't long before I became a beta tester for Power Quest and later after Symantec bought them and dismantled all their great work, Acronis appeared on the horizon so I went there. I never managed to get but a handful of folks to realize that importance, even when they lost everything!

Wow! @Rich-M sounds like you have had quite a computer career. I have only been a computer user for about 10 years. I'm self taught and learn from forums like this one and from friends. I know I talk a lot about back up images all the time; but if everyone would learn how, it sure would be a good thing.
Old Macrium has bailed me out many times, but less lately, as I learn from my mistakes. I worked on a Windows 98 here in my village. It was still going strong, but wasn't connected to the internet. They just played games and typed letters!

That is one of my favorite subjects donetao and I have been around backup techniques for many years but like you I am not native to this stuff. I started late also in the early nineties and knew from nothing originally. Between some radio show experience, contacts and forums like yourself comes most of my experience. I was fortunate enough to know a young high school student who taught me how to build a computer so my background is more hardware than software and to make up for that I became a software reviewer on several forums after my experiences with backup software companies and Antivirus Programs and soon hope to get back to that here once we get established.

Hi! @Rich-M I don't think I posted this before. Some times I post on CHF and lose track which forum I posted it on! I couldn't find it by searching. A little trick I learned where you can restore data without restoring the whole image. You mount the image, give it a drive letter, open two windows with Windows Explorer . Now you can copy and paste or drag and drop from your image(E) to your C drive. Comes in handy some times!!

Most backup programs allow you to use a basic "Explorer" where you mount the drive and then can copy and paste whatever you want.. It only ever helps me when I want something old as I have file and data backup from the same day where I use that feature way more often.

I have restored image files recently more often that I have in many years pointing out that I need to go back to making files weekly as I used to. Not sure exactly why that is but in the last 2 weeks I have restored image files to systems at least 3 times including today when all of a sudden all my printers disappeared and I have no idea what happened.

I've been there and done that. Who knows what happened??Computers will drive you crazy. Why fight with them? I just restore to a image when my printers and every thing was working; unless I really want to take the time to find out why. Some times I do. Some times I don't want to put forth the effort. I just give in to the fact that computers are smarter than humans and let them have their way. Thank God for back up images and Macrium Reflect . I would never survive with out my Macrium!
If reboot don't fix ix it, a restore with Macrium will. I hate computers!!
Good night friends!
:devil::grr::ohno:

Good night my Aussie friend! They may be to much a part of my life but I also except their challenge.
Bring it on Computers. See if Dougie and me can't Get-er Done! Your in for a fight Computers! We will win. We have a brain and I don't think you do.
Me and Dougie will kick your butt.:punch:
:big_ha:

I don't hate computers. They are a source of knowledge.
OK they act up and I like to think I am up to the challenge.
How bored one would be if they were perfect.
Computers are a small part of my life, not my life. :)

@donetao. Good Night.
That is a good point about being bored if they work 100% all the time it is part of the challenge. :)

Yeah they have come in and made themselves a very important part of our lives...I just wish we could time the problems better because we all know it is when we count on them the most and are in the greatest hurry, they decide to act up!

I have an old laptop. Recently most of my screen captures got rubbed out. The directory for that folder got corrupted.
Same goes with large video files. Sometimes they go bad and need to be restored.

Now and then I run a random sampling of my jpgs and mpg files.

Yup backup is of utmost importance. If you lost a clients data you might as well look for a new job.

a warning to donetao

Macrium Reflect has updated to version 6 i have read people having trouble trying to use version 6 to restore a image from version 5
from what i have read version 6 will not see the image's made with version 5 or something like that

so take care when you update to v6 and make a base line with it so you have something to fall back on if v6 will not see v5 image's

the download for the free version should be released soon

:)
